JOB SUMMARY
 
The role of the General Manager for Urgent, Emergency and Acute care, within Integrated Adult Care (IAC) is to deliver the following services in line with the Trust’s patient promises and the Directorate’s focus on patient safety and patient experience:
 
  • Emergency Department (A&E)
  • Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC)
  • Acute Medical Unit.
  • Medical Same Day Emergency Care (MSDEC)
  • Croydon Urgent Care Alliance (CUCA)
 
This is a high profiled leadership role within the Trust with an emphasis on operational delivery but also contributing to strategic director of the IAC Directorate.
 
The post holder will work with the ADO and Clinical Business Unit Leads to lead a team that will deliver the Trust’s patient promises within Acute Emergency services.  The focus will be on ensuring the delivery of excellence with respect to patient experience and safety.
 
The post holder will make a contribution to the Trust’s overall strategic direction.
 
The post holder will deliver the relevant Trust targets, standards, KPIs and contractual requirements of GP commissioners, including through active negotiations with GPs and other commissioners.
 
 Main responsibilities:
  1. To be a full member of the Trust’s operational management team and participate in key corporate decision making.
  2. To work with the ADO and Clinical Business Unit Leads to support the development of the Directorate strategy
  3. Direct responsibility & accountability for Urgent & Emergency Care (UEC) specialities related pay /non- pay budgets.
  4. To be directly responsible and accountable for cost improvement programmes and income and expenditure accounts (SLR) within UEC. This will include managing the complexities associated with the service line reporting systems currently be developed by the Trust.
  5. Use internal and external datasets; benchmarking data, best practice, national and local guidelines and protocols to shape proposals and practical solutions to directorate problems and challenges.
  6. Ensure all specialties are taking action to deliver against key performance indicators, contractual requirements, CQUINs, internal KPIs and CQC standards.
  7. To benchmark the current patient experience and conduct regular reviews to evaluate if the developments and implementations are having a positive impact on the patient pathway and patient confidence in service delivery.
  8. Manage all workforce directly associated within the Emergency Medicine Specialties.
  9. Provide leadership and direction to all direct reports and teams, ensuring performance is managed to agreed standards.
  10. Line management responsibility for the relevant Operational Managers, Matrons and Heads of Departments.
  11. Liaise with managers across the organisation to develop and implement best practice in terms of access systems, policies and procedures.
  12. To support and promote all governance activities within the Directorate including priority attendance at compulsory meetings for all staff.
  13. Provide support to the Clinical Directors in monthly Directorate service meetings, ensuring that all strategic matters across the directorate are addressed providing feedback to the Associate Director of Operations (ADO).
  14. Produce weekly, monthly and quarterly reports as required by the Trust, including reports to the Trust Board.
 
Ideal Candidate:
  • Educated to First Degree Level and Masters or equivalent Qualification or experience
  • Post Graduate Management related qualification (or Corporate experience) in an Acute Health Sector Environment.
  • In depth knowledge of Health Sector practices and functions with an Acute Hospital and current targets in place.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and NHS Policy.
  • Clear understanding of the NHS Agenda
  • Budget management experience. Specifically managing a budget whilst delivery CIP schemes.
  • Proven track record of senior operational management experience in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Able to recognise and deliver exemplary customer / patient interaction.
