Job Opportunity: Special Projects General Counsel – Latent Defects Claims Location: London
Salary: £60,112 per annum performance-related bonus
Contract Type: Full-time, permanent
Role Overview An exciting opportunity exists for a legal professional with expertise in construction law and dispute resolution. This role focuses on managing latent defects claims and advising on complex construction contracts. The ideal candidate will be comfortable overseeing legal proceedings, interpreting intricate agreements, and providing pragmatic legal guidance across construction-related matters.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on managing latent defects claims, including case research, document review, and legal correspondence.
  • Advise on construction contracts covering areas such as payments, delays, procurement, warranties, and insurance.
  • Draft, review, and amend a variety of contracts including NEC and JCT forms.
  • Guide adjudication, arbitration, and Technology & Construction Court proceedings.
  • Maintain legal precedents and provide procurement-related legal support.
  • Deliver internal legal training related to construction practices.
  • Support high-value dispute resolution processes pre-litigation.
  • Collaborate with surveyors and project managers to ensure evidence is recorded and stored correctly.
  • Manage legal and financial administration related to the role, including purchase orders and invoices.
  • Communicate effectively with residents and stakeholders, ensuring professionalism and clarity in handling complex queries or complaints.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong background in construction law, with demonstrable experience in latent defects and contractual disputes.
  • Familiarity with standard construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC).
  • Ability to interpret and draft complex legal documentation in plain English.
  • Knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and pre-action protocols.
  • Experience managing solicitors, barristers, and court proceedings.
  • Excellent administrative, audit, and organizational capabilities.
  • Proficient in managing electronic case files and legal correspondence.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to support colleagues and liaise with external professionals.
Desirable Attributes
  • Public or social sector experience is advantageous.
  • Comfortable working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Customer service-oriented, with experience in managing legal queries from a broad audience.
  • Collaborative approach with a willingness to support other teams as needed.
